Simple and inexpensive, but follow all safety precautions chemistry is POISIONOUS! Best method for me: 1. Soak brass parts in common white vinegar for at least 20 minutes, but as long as you want. I soaked these for 24hrs. Stir parts occasionally to ensure even coverage. If brass is dirty, clean it and optionally rub with very fine emery paper. 2. Rinse well with water and let dry, being careful not to touch with your hands- body oils will leave fingerprint smudges. 3. Here is the poisonous action: In a small disposable plastic cup, dip parts into the Birchwood Casey brass black solution, 5-10 seconds quick, keep moving the part to ensure coverage. Using disposable tongs or chop sticks, pull the part and drop into running water rinse. For blacker parts, repeat step 3! Wipe off water between dipping, but parts do not have to be perfectly dry. For best color, I do the first two coats, then pour some fresh solution for the last soak. Buff with cloth for a nice finish!
